HANOVER PARK — ActionSA will officially unveil its Cape Town mayoral candidate at Voorspoed Primary School in Hanover Park, a strategic location chosen to highlight the fight against gang violence and rampant crime. The party’s campaign focuses on reimagining the city through improved service delivery and making the metropole more affordable for all residents.

Hanover Park, situated on the Cape Flats, is recognized as a gang hotspot plagued by high levels of drug abuse, unemployment, and various social ills. The selection of this community as the announcement venue underscores its importance as a focal point in the upcoming elections.

Michael Beaumont, the national chairperson of ActionSA, stated that the people of the Western Cape urgently require a political alternative. He criticized the Democratic Alliance (DA) majority in the city and province, describing their governance as arrogant. Beaumont noted that while the DA claims to be better than the ANC, residents deserve actual service delivery rather than just being told they are better than the worst.

Highlighting the severe challenges facing the city, Beaumont pointed to communities where mothers bury their children daily and residents are held ransom by criminals while police and army convoys drive past without intervening. He also cited environmental and economic crises, noting that 27 million liters of raw sewage are pumped into the ocean every single day, alongside a rising cost of living that is pricing ordinary people out of the city.

Addressing future governance, Beaumont emphasized that the country is entering an era of coalitions. He warned that ActionSA will not support DA budgets or governance in a coalition environment unless concrete solutions and dedicated budget allocations are provided for these systemic challenges.

To enact positive changes, the party proposes better safety provisions and the deployment of metro police officers to compensate for the perceived failures of the South African Police Service (SAPS). Furthermore, Beaumont criticized the Government of National Unity (GNU), pointing out that the same political party currently governs at the city, provincial, and national levels. He argued that the lack of visible change indicates a distinct absence of political will.
