On the night of 8 January 2018, members from the Western Cape Flying Squad followed up on information they received about a vehicle that was allegedly transporting abalone in the Goodwood area.

The members spotted the vehicle and searched it. A total of 13 bags, containing 2585 units of abalone, worth an estimated street value of R100 000, were found.

A 46 year old suspect was arrested and, once charged, he will appear in the Goodwood Magistrates’ court.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, applauded these large seizures of our living marine resources, which are being looted by criminal syndicates.
