With our crime combatting strategy aimed at the illegal possession of firearms, members attached to the Provincial Integrated Team conducted a search operation on the night of 20 January 2021, in Nyanga. The operation in Chris Hani resulted in the arrest of five suspects and the seizure of two prohibited firearms, ammunition and a Toyota Avanza which was hijacked earlier this month.

The suspects aged between 20 and 22 are expected to make their court appearance in Athlone once they have been charged.

Meanwhile the Flying Squad also apprehended four suspects in a vehicle in Bellville for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Investigation revealed that the firearm was reported stolen in Bellville during last year.

The four suspects aged between 25 and 36 are scheduled to make a court appearance on Friday 22 January 2021, in Bellville.
