On Wednesday evening, 28 August 2019 at about 20:30, members of Manenberg Crime Prevention were doing patrols in the vicinity of Heideveld due to continuous shootings that occurred in the area. Whilst the members were patrolling near Heideveld train station, they received information from the community regarding the shooting and where the perpetrators ran to.

The members then followed up the information and search a premises in Sneeuberg Road, Heideveld. During the search they found two firearms and 19 rounds of ammunition, one Parabellum Pistol and one Tokarev Pistol, in the bedroom. The firearms will be sent for forensic examination in order to determine if they were used during previous reported firearms related offences.

Eight suspects aged between 19 and 31 were arrested for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The suspects are members of a local gang in the area and they are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate Court on 2 September 2019.

The Acting Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Mfazi commended the community of Heideveld for working so well with SAPS members and further appeal to anyone with any information regarding firearms to come forward and report it. He also commended the members for this confiscation and arrest in the fight against gangsterism.
