Police have stepped up their efforts to ensure that residents in their precincts are living in a safe and secure environment.

On Thursday,23 November 2017, Harare Police members were on vehicle patrols when they received information that a house robbery had occurred in 36 Block Makhaza, Khayelitsha at approximately 12:00. Immediately they were on the look-out for the getaway vehicle.

It was alleged that the six suspects were driving a gold colored Toyota Fortuner when they committed the crime. Three of the suspects allegedly stormed into the house, two of them wielding firearms. They took the music system (two speakers, one amplifier and a mixer, together with two pairs of soccer boots) and fled the scene. They loaded the loot in the Toyota Fortuner which was occupied by three other suspects and all of them fled the scene.

At approximately 13:30 police spotted a vehicle that matched the description that was given, driving in Makhaza. They tried to flag down the vehicle but the suspects sped off and that was when the police gave chase.

Police managed to halt the vehicle in Maccassar Road, Maccassar. Upon searching the vehicle they recovered all the stolen items. All six suspects between the ages of 21 and 45 were arrested and will be charged for house robbery.

Further inquiries about the arrested suspects revealed that one of them is a wanted suspect on two other cases (carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearm).

Both are Khayelitsha cases dating back to 2011. The culprits are expected to appear in Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court as soon as they have been charged.

Police management applauded the members for their tenacity and congratulated them on a job well done. At the same time the police members were sensitized to always exercise extra caution when approaching any crime situation.
