Velddrif police members responded to a complaint of a business robbery on Monday, 14 March 2022 at around 12:00. The members pursued the information at hand and spotted a vehicle that fitted the description, and gave chase.

When they managed to bring the vehicle to a halt, the occupants fled the scene with police members in pursuit. Upon searching the vehicle, three firearms and ammunition, presumed stolen property and an undisclosed amount of cash were confiscated.

Five suspects aged between 26 and 44 were arrested and detained on charges of possession unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of presumed stolen property and business robbery.

In an unrelated matter, members of the Worcester Anti-Gang Unit followed up on information relating to a firearm being stored at an identified address in W4, Roodewal.

Upon arrival at the address the police members explained the reason for their presence, and requesting to search the premises. Upon which the owner of the house voluntarily took the firearm from the ceiling of a wendy house on the premises, and hand it over to the police members.

The 26-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Vredenburg and Worcester Magistrates courts on the mentioned charges.
