5 cop killers get hefty sentences, Malmesbury

SAPS management in the province has welcomed two life imprisonment and lengthy sentences which was handed down to five accused who were involved in the murder and robbery on Warrant Officer Dumas, who was stationed at Malmesbury SAPS.

The victim went missing on 24 December 2016 and his body was found on the 27 December 2016 in a bushy area in Witsand, Atlantis.

The Western Cape high court handed down sentencing to Lubabalo Silo, he was found guilty on count 1, robbery aggravated, and in terms of Section 76 (1)(2) Child Justice Act detained in a youth center for 5 years. He was handed down 15 years imprisonment. The court made a ruling that he undergo various programs for his rehabilitation. In addition, he was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment suspended for 5 years. Upon release after 5 years the accused will be 20 years old and then only will the suspended sentence start.

Naydene Hill was found guilty on count 1, robbery aggravated and sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment.

Magret van Wyk was found guilty on count 1, robbery aggravated and handed a 12 years sentence.

Thobingcebo Mditsane was found guilty on count 1, robbery aggravated, and handed down 5 years imprisonment. On count 2, murder, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. The sentences will be served concurrently.

Mateo Nero was found guilty on count 1, robbery aggravated and sentenced to 15 years behind bars and on count 2, murder, he was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment. The sentences will be served concurrently. The court found compelling circumstance to deviate from the minimum prescribed sentence of life based on the fact that he took the court in his trust.
