The fight to rid our communities of unlicensed firearms from criminals continues as members of Elsies River Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 23-year-old male on 30 March 2022, for the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The members were busy with patrols in Forest Drive, The Range, Elsies River, when they heard the sound of gunshots nearby. They went to investigate and saw a male with a shotgun in his hand.

When the suspect saw the police approaching he tried to evade arrest but was apprehended.

Once charged the suspect will appear in the Goodwood Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.

Meanwhile Philippi East Detectives searched a premises at a warehouse in Protea Road, Philippi East, where they found three 9mm pistols and one .45mm pistol and several rounds of ammunition.

The discovery was made after the members received information about the firearms while busy with tracing operations in the area. No one was arrested and an inquiry into the matter was opened for investigation.
