Police and other law enforcement agencies remain committed to enforce the law and keep the communities safe during the National Lockdown. This weekend during various operations that were conducted police arrested suspects and seized unlicensed firearms and ammunition in the Nyanga Cluster.

In Philippi East a 32-year-old man was arrested on Friday 8 May 2020, after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm at Vietnam drive, Marcus Garvey, Philippi-East.

Gugulethu police searched a house at NY5 and found an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Police arrested a 32-year-old suspect and he is facing a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Members were patrolling at NY119, Gugulethu when a vehicle approached them. When they stop the vehicle it collided with a police vehicle. The driver jumped out and ran away. Police chased him and saw him throwing a firearm over a wall. The suspect was arrested and a firearm was recovered. The members arrested two suspects, a 20-year-old female and 29-year-old man.

SAPS and law enforcement members attended to the complaint of noise at a house in Khikhi, Gugulethu. Upon their arrival, they found a man with an unlicensed firearm. The suspect, a 40-year-old man was arrested.

All suspects will appear in the Athlone magistrates’ court.
