4 Manenberg gang members sentenced to life imprisonment

The four life sentences handed down to four Manenberg gang members today in the Cape High court is a reflection of our strong stance against serious and violent crimes, terrorizing the communities of affected areas in this province.

We are pleased with the outcome of the trial and hope that other gangsters will learn from the harsh sentences.

In addition to the life sentences handed down to the accused for the murder of 43 year old Simon Johnson on 30 October 2016, Kaylem Bartlet (20), Rushdien Meyer (21), Garren Paulse (39) and Amien Jaffer (27) were also sentenced to three years imprisonment in terms of POCA, 10 years for attempted murder, 15 years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and three years for possession of ammunition.

The sentences will be served concurrently.

The investigators who worked around the clock to present the court with a thoroughly investigated case docket are commended by the senior management of the Western Cape and they are encouraged to continue with their dedication and commitment.
