’27 Gang’ member sentenced to 25 years imprisonment, Kraaifontein

On 14 Match 2017, the victim, Graham Jacobs (36) was shot while walking with his wife in Frans Conradie Boulevard, Scottsville, Kraaifontein. An attempted murder case were registered for investigation.

The suspect, 23 year old Lorenzo Davids was arrested shortly after the incident and bail was successfully opposed by the Investigating Officer Detective Sergeant Otto Landsberg as the case was handled as gang related due to the fact that Lorenzo Davids was part of the 27 Gang.

The Victim and his wife were taken to a place of safety for the duration of the trial. During January 2018 the victim and his wife returned to Kraaifontein without the knowledge of the police.

On 21 January 2018 the victim was shot and killed in Scottsville, Kraaifontein. The motive for this attack was to prevent him testifying against Lorenzo Davids. Uncertainty emerged whether the trial will continue without the testimony of Graham Jacobs.

Due to excellent work between the investigating officer Sergeant Otto Landsberg and Prosecutor Mr Hamley Marquard of Blue Downs Court a lot of effort was put in the continuation of the trial and the security of the remaining witness.

On 3 October 2018,, Lorenzo Davids was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for attempted murder, 15 years for possession of illegal firearm.

The Court ordered that five years of the 15 years in the possession of firearm case must be served with the 15 years for the attempted murder which means that the accused was sentenced effectively to 25 years imprisonment.
