Safer Festive Season operations yielded positive results with the arrest of twenty three suspects for drug related offences in Southern Cape on Thursday 2 January 2019, during high visibility patrols in crime hotspots.

SAPS Eden Cluster Crime Combating Team supported by members deployed to enhance visibility at local police station during the festive period conducted various operations aimed at drug outlets in George, Oudtshoorn and Knysna.

The police confiscated 130 Mandrax tablets, dagga and tik during these operations. Four suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs whilst the other suspects are facing charges of possession of drugs.

Meanwhile, members attached to the Central Karoo K9 arrested two suspects, aged 30 and 31 in the Karoo town of Beaufort West on charges of possession of drugs after mandrax tablets were found in their possession.

These members were busy with stop and search operations in the area when the arrests were made.

It is a known fact that drug and alcohol abuse are some of the biggest contributors to serious and violent crimes. The police will continue with similar operations to rid communities from drugs through the rest of the festive period.
