On 28 August 2018 at about 23h00 a Vehicle Checkpoint was held at the Klawer Weighbridge by members of the Provincial Traffic Department. A vehicle was pulled over and the particulars of the driver were tested. This indicated that the driver had been involved in various drug related cases in the Northern Cape.

He indicated that he was on his way to Springbok. Members of Vispol from Nuwerus SAPS were asked to wait for the vehicle on the N7 and they escorted the driver to SAPS Nuwerus. There members of the Provincial detectives and Organised Crime Investigators dealing with narcotics, Vredendal, did a proper search of the vehicle and found about 2000 Mandrax tablets and about 167g Tik hidden in a side panel of the vehicle.

The suspect, a 50 year old man, was arrested and will appear in court later.

The White Optra vehicle which he was driving was also confiscated. The charges against him are related to dealing in Mandrax and Tik.

The distribution of drugs often takes place via road and these confiscations make a significant impact on the fight against drug abuse.
