With 10 days into this year’s 16 Days of No violence against women and children campaign, Western Cape police management has welcomed hefty sentences meted out by the Paarl Sexual Offences court to two child rapists recently.

In one case, 34-year-old accused, David Solomons was sentenced to two life imprisonments for two counts of rape and four years for sexual assault.

The court found the accused had raped the 12-year-old daughter of his girlfriend between 2018 and 2019 on Mooi Kelder Farm in Paarl. Solomons was sentenced on 26 November 2021.

In a Wellington rape case involving a 15-year-old girl that was raped by her sister’s boyfriend, the Paarl Magistrates court sentenced the accused, Jerome Adams to 10 and 20 years for two counts of rape.

The 31-year-old accused committed the rape in 2014 on farm in Wellington. He was sentenced on 2 December 2021.

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Thembisile Patekile has congratulated the investigation and prosecution teams for ensuring the perpetrators are incarcerated. “We hope the sentences will serve as a deterrent to would-be perpetrators of crimes against women and children”, says Lt General Patekile.

He encouraged communities to report crimes against women and children to police.
