During our continued efforts to create a safe and secure environment for the community in Hout Bay, crime operations were conducted by SAPS and other law enforcement agencies during the past week ending 2 August 2017, which proved successful.

In a joint effort, SAPS and other law enforcement agencies were deployed in number to police the area. Various initiatives comprising searches, crime awareness campaigns, foot patrols, the tracing of wanted suspects and several operations including shebeen operations were conducted which led to a total of 174 arrests.

During these initiatives,three suspects were arrested for possession of 2164 crayfish and 237 crayfish tails.

A total of four arrests for murder, 30 for assault, 39 drug related arrests, 18 drunken driving, 18 possession of dangerous weapons were made and ten shebeens were closed down.

1493 suspects were searched and 681 vehicles were stopped and searched during 145 vehicle check points.

569 grams of dagga, 12 dagga plants, 3 mandrax powder and 23 mandrax tablets were confiscated during drug arrests. 304 traffic fines were issued to the value of R165 000. 471,690 litres of alcohol were confiscated during raids of 10 shebeens. 15 knives and one scissors were confiscated. One firearm and ammunition were confiscated during a vehicle search.

The suspects appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates court.
