Victim shot in stomach during hijacking

During the evening of July 23, 2015 shortly before 22:00, Somerset West Neighbourhood Watch received a call related to a vehicle hijacking on the R102 at Firgrove. The information has been relayed from Macassar Neighbourhood Watch.

Two occupants of a grey Ford Focus were approached and attacked by two suspects, one of which was armed. One occupant of the vehicle was shot in the stomach during the hijacking.

The Somerset West Neighbourhood Watch Communications Centre notified Somerset West SAPS and circulated the information. Response vehicles from the Community Security Partnership (ADT, AM Security, Gordon’s Bay Security and Secure Rite Security) immediately responded, supported by one of Somerset West Neighbourhood Watch paramedic partners (ER24, EMO and GB Med Rescue).

Surrounding Neighbourhood Watch’s were also notified and Neighbourhood Watch patrollers reacted, relocating to given observation points in an effort to identify the direction of the vehicle.

Partnership armed response vehicles maintained a high visibility presence in the area, searching for the hijacked vehicle but to no avail.

The victim was stabilised at the scene before being transferred to hospital, where reportedly, he is out of danger and recuperating.
