The proposed amendments to the AARTO (Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences) Act are impractical, irrational and legally full of loopholes.

This is the opinion of Mr. Rudie Heyneke of the Organization Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa).

The legislation provides for unpaid e-toll accounts to prevent motorists from renewing their driver’s licenses. The law therefore wants motorists to pay their e-toll bills with a sword over their head that their driver’s licenses can be withdrawn.

Outa will oppose the legislation, if approved, in court.
