Two suspects to appear for Mayisela twins murder in Etwatwa

Two people arrested for the brutal killing of twin brothers who were necklaced in Etwatwa in the East Rand were expected to appear in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The brothers, Sabelo and Samkelo Mayisela were laid to rest in a massive funeral on Sunday.  Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department spokesperson Clifford Shongwe told News24 that the arrest of one of the suspects, a 53-year-old man, was a big break through.

The man had been sought by police since the violence started and is believed to preside over cases where a self-appointed anti-crime group takes action against people it believes have committed crimes, bypassing the criminal justice system. In this case it appeared the victims were members of a gang called “OVL”.

Meanwhile, four other people were arrested last Monday after two other youths were also necklaced last week.

One died and the other survived after emergency hospital care.
