In no uncertain terms, Donald Trump has warned South Africa, and all other countries, that he will stop foreign aid if the countries do not respect the United States.
Trump announced in his UN speech that the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, was instructed to investigate whether countries receiving financial assistance also bear in mind the interests of the United States.
South Africa was listed earlier this year as one of the top 10 countries that show anti US sentiment when it comes to voting around US resolutions at the UN.
This warning comes at a time when relations between the US and SA are tight after Trump’s tweet, that land theft and farm murders must be investigated.
With SA’s sucking up to the Chinese, it could also cloud relationships further.
