A taxi driver allegedly attacked a traffic officer who pulled him over near the Cape Town International Airport on Tuesday morning, the city said.
The traffic officer, of the Ghost Squad, stopped the taxi on the N2 near Borcherds Quarry Road, said city spokesperson Janine Willemans.
She said the driver became aggressive and a scuffle ensued.
“The officer noticed the driver reaching for something behind his back. He overpowered him and discovered the driver was in possession of an unlicensed firearm.”
The man was arrested and taken to Nyanga police station where he was charged with assault, reckless and negligent driving, possession of an unlicensed firearm and resisting arrest.
Willemans said the officer was unharmed.
