Traffic blocked in Johannesburg protest

Protesters were burning tyres and blocking traffic in in central Johannesburg on Wednesday morning.

Johannesburg Roads Agency employees were behind the protest, Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

Pixley ka Isaka Seme (Sauer), Pritchard, Rahima Moosa (Jeppe), and Lilian Ngoyi (Bree) streets were affected.

Minnaar said that officers were on the scene.

The JRA could not immediately be reached for comment and it was not clear what the protest was about. On its Twitter account, the agency said it condemned the unprotected strike.
