Tortured with burning plastic during farm attack

The head of a nursery school near Pongola in KwaZulu-Natal, was burned with burning plastic and tortured during a farm attack over the weekend, Beeld reported on Tuesday.

According to a neighbor, four robbers overpowered Armand and Doulina Slabbert on Saturday at about 14:00 on their farm.
Armand runs a nursery on the farm, and Doulina a kindergarten.

Jess Strümpfer, their neighbor, said on Monday the robbers overpowered Doulina outside the home and took her into the house where Armand was showering.

The robbers tied up Armand’s disabled brother in the house, and forced the couple to their bedroom, where they have stolen money and guns from the safe.

“They tied Armand and Doulina, set plastic on fire and dripped it on Doulina’s stomach,” Strümpfer said. It is believed that the robbers tortured her in forcing Armand to tell them where all the valuable possessions are.

The suspects took the keys of the couple’s two bakkies, but Armand managed to escape and resisted the attackers. The attackers fled without the vehicles.

Doulina were taken to a nearby hospital and later discharged.

The Slabberts could not be reached for comment.

Col. Jay Naicker, provincial police spokesman, said no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
