On October 17, 2019, ToekomsVonk celebrated their second birthday and launched their farm security project. This project is specifically focused on helping farmers to get early warning systems around their homes.

Since ToekomsVonk started collecting statistics on farm murders in 2017, 199 farmers have been killed and there have been 873 farm attacks. ToekomsVonk also launched a Farm Census earlier this year asking farmers to fill in the census document on ToekomsVonk’s website. More than 600 farmers have already participated, and the information clearly shows that farmers need early warning systems to alert them to an attack.

ToekomsVonk therefore put together a package, based on what farmers themselves said they need. This package includes solar floodlights, security beams, CCTV cameras, two-way radios, security gates and a 24-month subscription of a cellphone panic button for everyone in the home and a 24-month subscription for a car tracking service for all vehicles on the farm.

On October 17, 2019, ToekomsVonk donated their first package to Leigh and Marius du Preez for their smallholding outside Pretoria. ToekomsVonk envisages to help several other farmers before the end of 2019. The project will be continued in 2020 and farmers are invited to participate in the Farm Census that can be found on ToekomsVonk’s website:
