Tax experts have warned that there may be a further VAT increase.
Tito Mboweni, the new finance minister, has to announce the government’s medium term budgetary policy later this month,October 2018, and it may be possible that the government will try to supplement the tax revenue gap with a further increase in the rate of VAT.
The sugared pill is that the zero rate will be applied to further goods, which means that the so called rich must subsidize the others.
