So, Pravin Gordhan is the latest innocent victim of resident Jacob Zuma? Being sacked as Minister makes him a martyr?

It really is scary how people on the social media can blindlessly follow any sugar-coated story. Support Gordhan? Support Gordhan?

Pravin Jamnadas Gordhan was born on April 12 1949 in Durban. The name Pravin is of Sanskrit origin and means knowledgeable, skillful and proficient. Gordhan is married to Vanitha Raju and has two children. Gordhan attended Sastri College‚ formerly an all-Indian boys’ school‚ in Durban. He worked at his family’s clothing store in Prince Edward Street on Saturdays.

Gordhan spent four years in underground structures after becoming involved with the ANC, SA Communist Party and Umkhonto we Sizwe during the sixties. He was detained on three occasions for terrorist activities. His allocation of R11 million to himself as a “veteran” from the Military Veterans’ Fund is currently investigated by the Hawks.

He became an activist and member of the ANC and the SA Communist Party, and obtained a bachelor of pharmacy degree at the University of Durban Westville in 1973. At university Gordhan was among students who started to revolt. After his studies he worked as a pharmacist at King Edward Hospital and had meetings with Mac Maharaj in the hospital storeroom and nurses’ room to get advice on how to get involved in organised resistance. He was fired from the hospital for his political activities. Gordhan then took part in the Natal Indian Congress’ call to boycott elections in the 1980s.

After this Gordhan laid low for fifteen years, until suddenly! voila! he obtained two degrees ”simultaneously” during 2007 at the University of Cape Town and Unisa in preparation for his appointment as Minister of Finance in 2009.

In his position at the SA Revenue Services he is being investigated for creating a “specialist investigation unit” concentrating on political opponents, belittling his peers and subordinates and leaking confidential information regarding opponents to the media.

Pravin Gordhan is an opportunist. He can easily switch between Hindu, Communist, terrorist, socialist, capitalist, traditionalist – as long as there is a position or money involved.

Pravin Gordhan is no sudden hero just because Zuma will imminently fire him. He is an opportunist who is looking to the corporate world and big business as a sudden “freemarket prophet” to save him from Zuma’s wrath.

Gordhan is not the kind of guy that Front National will bet any money on.
