There is a renewed speculation that Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan could lose his job should a cabinet reshuffle happen. Gordhan probably knows he has nothing to lose and the gloves are off as his battle against Jacob Zuma’s friends, the Guptas continue.

In a public affidavit, the Guptas Company Oakbay repeatedly begged Gordhan to intervene in the bank’s decision and reconsider their ordeal.

Three months ago, Gordhan went to court to get a declaratory order on whether the finance minister should intervene if banks take action against their clients.

In the meantime, Oakbay made certain changes in its attack against Gordhan, and Gordhan said it was significant that Oakbay only now disputes certain documents.

Oakbay still claims that Gordhan’s application is politically motivated, but Gordhan regarded the accusation as “simply blasphemous”.

Gordhan denied that he was engaged in a campaign against the Guptas. “To tell the truth, which has been exposed, is a systematic and highly organized campaign by the Gupta family and its associates to the national treasury, myself and other targets.”

After he had brought his case to court and in this regard, Gordhan also refers to the State Capture Report that was issued by the former public protector.
