The AA has warned that a further price increase in fuel would be in August 2018.

Data shows that petrol could increase by 19 cents and diesel with 13 cents per litre. It is because of the rand that is still weakening against the dollar, this despite Cyril Ramaphosa’s promises and efforts to get the economy going again.

The weakening of the rand is the result of investors distrust in the South African economy as a result of government policies and, in some cases, policy uncertainty.

The fuel price could be drastically lower if the government were to reduce the burden of levies and taxes, but then the government’s books would not balance, which is already the case.
