Tensions high as Strand evictions continue

Cape Town – Tensions remain high in an informal settlement where residents have been evicted from land owned by the SA National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral). People tried desperately to save their possessions as their homes were dismantled on Monday and Tuesday morning.

Sanral has told EWN that it is acting within the confines of the law and that the land had been earmarked for the re-routing of the N2.

The ANC blamed the Democratic Alliance for the evictions and said it was punishment to people for not voting DA but the Western Cape government distanced itself from the incident, Sapa reports.
