The looming taxi strike by drivers on Wednesday has provisionally averted.
The transport minister, Joe Maswanganyi, has responded to the demands of the taxi association, Santaco.
He agreed that he and his department would investigate the complaints about high prices of minibusses, as well as high financing of these vehicles’ purchases.
The taxi industry is protesting against the rise of minibus prices, to which every prospective motor buyer is being subjected. However, they are demanding a discount of approximately R200 000 per vehicle.
During the previous strike, taxi drivers did not stay at home but worked hard to disrupt traffic by blocking roads.
