Suspects arrested following information received after farm attack

On Sunday April 17, 2016 Nottingham police arrested five suspects aged between 25 and 40 for business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and stolen property at Nottingham, Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

It is alleged that the members were following up on information on a house robbery case after an elderly couple was attacked and robbed on their farm last Sunday.

The members were following up information that led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of stolen property as well as unlicensed firearms.

The members recovered .22 firearm, a double barrel shotgun, 17 live rounds of ammunition, a laptop and several clothing and shoes. All the recovered stolen items were seized from the suspects.

A case was opened at Nottingham Police station for further investigation and the arrested suspects appeared in the Howick Magistrates Court on April 18, 2016.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni praised all members who were involved in this operation and the recovery of stolen items. “I would like to commend our members for their dedication in the operation that led to arrest of the suspects.

The recovered unlicensed firearms will be sent to ballistic test to determine whether they were used in the commission of other crimes in the province.

We will ensure that the arrested suspects will be prosecuted and sentenced accordingly if found guilty,” she said.
