Suspected farm attacker found in hospital

A suspected farm attacker is in a Port Elizabeth hospital under police guard.

Kobus du Toit (74) and his 72-year-old wife were attacked on their farm Brakkenfontein on Thursday, October 22, 2015.

The attackers forced Du Toit into the house where they tied his wife. Before they could tie him, he took a gun that he carry on his person, and shot at the suspects.

He later said he thought he had wounded one of the attackers, but it was not immediately clear whether this was the case or not. One of the attackers jumped through a window and cut himself badly. He died on the scene.

According to Rheeder, during brilliant investigation by Capt. Fanus de Bruin and his team, they discovered that a man had requested treatment at a Port Elizabeth hospital. After further investigation it was determined that the man is a suspect in the case.

The man sought treatment for a shoulder wound and told police he was attacked with a screwdriver. According to Rheeder there is however enough evidence to link the suspect to the farm attack.

Rheeder said Du Toit has since been discharged from hospital. The search for the other two suspects continue.
