The International Criminal Court in The Hague found that South Africa was wrong in that during 2015, Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir should have been arrested.

South Africa has five days to indicate whether it wishes to appeal against the verdict.

The fact that South Africa refused to arrest a person guilty of grave human rights violations serves as proof that the ANC government does not attach much importance to human rights and the people of South Africa must take notice, said Dr. Corné Mulder, the FF Plus’s chief whip, in response to the court ruling. He said the verdict was to be expected.

He also said it was worrying that South Africa’s government attaches its own interpretation to the clear guidelines from the Criminal Court, knowing that it contradicts the Rome Statute.

“The criminal court’s judgment confirms the ruling of the courts in South Africa.” It is therefore clear that the South African government acted incorrectly when refusing to execute the Criminal Court’s order.”

“South Africa’s economy has recently been downgraded to junk status. Now, this statement reflects South Africa’s status as fast becoming the world’s greatest skunk,” said Dr. Mulder.
