South Africa increasingly affected by so-called protest marches

The country is increasingly becoming paralyzed by constant protests, which is violent and where significant damage is done causing services to stop.

In Vanderbijlpark, people could not go to work because roads are blocked by such riots. The dissatisfaction is believed that the Emfuleni municipality rightly claimed that electricity should be paid and now offered a tender to a Chinese company to install “smart meters.”

In Benoni, nine people were arrested after a demonstration became violent and damage to public and private property while shops were also looted. The local fire station was so severely damaged that it had to be closed and neighboring towns’ firefighters are now on standby for Benoni as well.

Milnerton in the Cape, the firefighters had to retreat in their efforts to extinguish a clinic’s fire when the community hurled rocks and did not let them save the clinic and other buildings. The city council has announced that its budget is exhausted and will not be able to rebuild the clinic.

In the infamous Soweto, three security guards were killed during a demonstration, and a 17-year-old violent protester was shot dead. It has fueled the protest, with the result that train services remain suspended in Nancefield until further notice. Several trains were damaged when protesters appeared to be dissatisfied with housing.
