The ANC’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa, was on the defensive the past week because South Africa has become a ‘banana republic’. This is the opinion of a political analyst in Pretoria after various incidents have left Ramaphosa in a bad light.

The charges against Ramaphosa began with the Public Protector who rightly showed that the president had lied to parliament about R500,000 in his bank account.

The violence on women campaign started by the ANC Women’s League as a subject of contention and has forced him to convene a special session of parliament to provide an opportunity for debate.

At the funeral of Mugabe, where every political leader from Africa took the opportunity to praise the dictator Mugabe, it was Ramaphosa who was heckled and had to apologize to Africa for the xenophobic violence in his country.
