Shoot-out between metro police and suspects in Johannesburg

There has been a shoot-out between Johannesburg metro police officers and an unknown number of suspects near the Mayfair train station west of the CBD, metro police said on Friday.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar told News24: “Church Street has been blocked because of a shooting incident. JMPD is on the scene.

“The shooting involved an unknown number of suspects at this point in time. The number of officers also cannot be confirmed.”

The shooting happened on the corner of Church Street and Albertina Sisulu Road west of the Johannesburg CBD.

“The shooting happened around an hour ago,” Minnaar said just after noon on Friday.

Metro police were still investigating.
