It appears that the South African Revenue Service (SARS) does not have the ability to recover 40% of R143 billion in outstanding tax. SARS is involved in disputes or debts that are outstanding for more than four years.

SARS said it is going to concentrate on the 60% that they may be able to recover.

An entity that once functioned smoothly was plagued by politicians who made appointments to benefit themselves and people like the Guptas.

It is now openly asked who can still trust the country’s government systems?
