The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed the suspension of nine officers who served on the Bid Evaluation Committee for the Medicare24 tender process.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe announced that the officers have been placed on precautionary suspension pending the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings and related investigations. The move follows internal reviews of the tender evaluation process.
Mathe emphasized that SAPS remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct across all its operations. “The suspension is a precautionary measure to ensure the integrity of the investigative process,” she stated.
The Medicare24 tender has drawn scrutiny over procurement procedures, prompting the internal accountability measures. SAPS has not disclosed further details about the nature of the allegations but confirmed that all affected members will be afforded due process in line with organizational policies and labor regulations.
The service indicated that updates will be provided as the investigations progress, reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct within procurement and administrative functions.
