Rural Security Summit postponed again – ANC and police not serious about farm attacks
Rural Security Summit postponed again - ANC and police not serious about farm attacks

South Africa is bleeding and still the SAPS has decided to postpone the Rural Security Summit for a second time, and this clearly shows that neither the police service nor the government are serious enough about farm attacks and murders.

This is what TLU SA’s president Mr Henry Geldenhuys said after being informed about the postponement of the security summit that was supposed to take place at the end of the month. This is the second time it has been postponed.

“It is now scheduled for August, but the seven committees that convened the summit with the SAPS are not so sure that it will take place then either. The postponement of the summit and the fact that the rural security plan has never been implemented only shows that our country’s government and police service clearly do not have the will or the ability to address crime,” said Mr Geldenhuys.

“The country is falling apart. And the so-called efforts of the SAPS to show that it treats farm attacks and murders as a priority crime seem to be empty words. These actions show the lack of seriousness the government and the police have regarding farm attacks.”

With the recent launch of the first quarter’s crime figures, it’s clear that the crime situation in South Africa is out of control. It is not only murder and rape that are a concern, but also stock theft that is getting worse in the way and numbers its taking place. It is becoming increasingly clear that stock theft is a large and organised industry with big money at stake.

“If the rural security plan is implemented and the SAPS just allows the Security Summit to take place, we will take two giant steps in the right direction, but I’m astonished with our police service’s inability, unwillingness and apparent indifference.”
