Rogue “killer cop” arrested in KZN

Rogue “killer cop” arrested in KZN

Durban – A rogue police officer – on the run after allegedly gunning down his girlfriend and shooting her lover at the weekend – has been arrested.

This follows a manhunt through sugarcane fields in New Hanover to track a gravely injured “Boyzie” Dladla, 30.

Dladla had allegedly attempted to take his own life, but had failed.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker confirmed that Dladla had been detained, but was in a critical state from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“The police officer from Msinga was arrested and rushed to a nearby hospital where he will remain under guard until he has recovered. He was in a bad way,” Naicker said.

He added that his arrest brought to an end a manhunt for the rogue officer that had drawn in units from neighbouring districts.

“We understand that the Crime Intelligence Unit, among others, had a pivotal role to play in the arrest,” Naicker said.

The Witness reported that Dladla had allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend, Zandile Mahlaba, 20, in the head while she was returning from a date with another man in Mpophomeni, outside Howick in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.

Dladla was also wanted by police for allegedly attempting to murder Mahlaba’s partner, known only as “Prince”, who was shot in the back as he fled the murder scene.

Prince, who is believed to be a police officer at Mpophomeni, was rushed to Grey’s Hospital in Pietermaritzburg where he remains in a stable condition.
