Robber mislead court and got away with a fine

KwaZulu-Natal police are searching for a suspected criminal who escaped from the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court after tricking court orderlies.

Maj. Thulani Zwane, police spokesperson, said Mduduzi Blessing Zama escaped from the court on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, where he appeared on charges of business robbery.

Zwane said there were several burglaries at various businesses, in the Scottburgh business center in recent months, but the police have not been able to track down the robbers. After a resident called the police about two suspicious men on his premises, they were arrested on charges of trespassing.

“While they were in detention, they were interviewed and it led the police to Zama’s house in Amandawe, where several stolen items were found,” Zwane said. “Many of these items were stolen during the burglaries at Scottburgh businesses. Zama was arrested on charges of business robbery and would have appeared in court on August 11.”

Zama, however presented himself to the court as another suspect, who appeared on a charge of drug use and was released with a fine. By the time court orderlies realized their mistake, Zama himself already left.
