Rivers in South Africa get a smelly boost

Die Vryburger

According to a report, 50 000 tons of sewage per second are deposited daily in rivers.

It appears that municipal sewerage systems are no longer in good working condition throughout the country.

Only 60 of the 824 water purification plants release clean water. It, therefore, represents a mere 7.3% of the plants that are functional.

The E-coli bacterium, derived from human secretion, is trying to kill the natural life of dams and rivers.

The annual report of Green Drop confirms the figures and states that only 10% of sewage plants were able to purge water in 2013.
