A gang of five armed men held up and robbed staff at a business premises in Riverhorse Valley in Durban on Wednesday evening.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the robbers, who were all armed with firearms, had arrived in a white Honda Ballade with no registration plates and held up staff at around 19:00.
“They drove onto the premises and held up staff members who were working overtime, robbing them of their cellphones, cash and two computers. The men loaded the goods into the vehicle and fled the scene,” he said.
Jackson advised business owners to ensure premises were secured at night and to regularly speak to staff about being security conscious at work.
“Criminals are on the lookout for easy targets and often stake out properties before striking so it is important to advise staff to report any suspicious individuals or vehicles they might notice lurking near the premises at any time and then report this to your security company,” he said.
“Staff who are opening up in the mornings or working late at night must be extra vigilant and ensure that security gates are locked and that any external security beams are switched on after dark.”
