Retired technician murdered on smallholding

Johan van der Berg (54), a retired technician and businessman, was allegedly murdered Friday night October 16, 2015, on his smallholding in the Greenbushes area in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.

Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, a police spokesperson, told Maroela Media on Monday, Van der Berg’s body was found by his ex-wife, who lives on the same smallholding in a separate house.

“The woman went to Van der Berg’s house about 08:15 to borrow milk when she found his body,” Van Rensburg said.

“It is suspected that an unknown number of suspects gained access to his house on Friday or early Saturday morning by forcing open the back door.”

He apparently died after being stabbed in the chest with a sharp object. Van der Berg’s home was ransacked and firearms, a television and DVD player were stolen.

Police are investigating a case of murder.

Nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident.
