Rawsonville murder investigation in good hands

The farm attack during which Anthea du Preez (64) was murdered, is the first of its kind in the Breede Valley community in the Western Cape and the best of the best are investigating the attack, said her son-in-law Peter Basson.

Anthea was the wife of Hennie du Preez, owner of the Du Preez Estate in Rawsonville in the Western Cape. She was found dead on Monday morning in her home on their farm, The Pines.

“What happened to my mother-in-law, is unheard of in the area,” Basson said on Tuesday to Marula Media. Basson and his wife Janette lives on the farm next to her parents. “Her murder is treated as a high-profile case. Her death came as a great shock to us and the community, and we are still struggling to cope.”

Basson said the investigation is fragile and too much information about the incident may hamper the investigation. “The police are conducting their investigation and the case is in good hands.”

Basson described his mother as a wonderful person. “She had green fingers and renovated several gardens in the area. She was a great example of a good person and a wonderful grandmother. She touched many people’s heart strings.”

Captain FC van Wyk, a police spokesman of the Western Cape, confirmed on Monday to Marula Media that police were investigating a case of murder. It is not yet made public how she was murdered, or if anything was stolen. It is also unknown how many suspects were involved in the farm attack.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Du Preez leave behind her husband, three children, Jean, Hennie and Janette, and nine grandchildren. Her funeral arrangements have not been made.
