The inability of the SA Air Force to supply aircraft to Cyril Ramaphosa and his lot has resulted in the taxpayer paying about R50 million over the last four months.

SAA provides the air force with aircraft and only about 30 passengers are transported in a commercial jet that can transport more than 300 passengers and costs about R1.5 million per return trip. A private jet can be rented at R350 000 for the same purpose.

Ramaphosa’s flight to the G7 summit in Canada thus cost between R7 and R10 million.

The cost comes from the military budget until the air force can get its fleet airworthy or until a new tender has been accepted for the provision of services.

It was widely anticipated that Ramaphosa would fly with the cheap Kulula company, but apparently it was only a once off publicity stunt and it turns out that he is spending as much money as his predecessor.
