After all nine provinces announced their nominations, Cyril Ramaphosa received 1 861 nominations against Dlamini-Zuma’s 1 309.

The ANC Youth League, Women’s League and Veterans each have a further 60 votes with the Youth and Women who will probably nominate Dlamini-Zuma, and the Veterans will vote for Ramaphosa.

Political analysts say that the score excludes the 223 nominations of the Eastern Transvaal where the “unity” was directed against the names of the six candidates.

The larger provinces, however, support Dlamini-Zuma, and so many more delegates send to the conference, which means that the last word has not yet been spoken.

It is also expected that large amounts of bribes will be exchanged to benefit certain candidates. At one of the previous ANC conferences, there was apparently a bribe of around R50 million.
