The new Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, is seen as an embarrassment to her office.
According to Corruption Watch’s spokesperson, David Lewis, the PP must at least understand the Constitution, but the knowledge thereof is apparently missing.
She played around with statements about the Reserve Bank’s mandate because for one moment she declared that the bank’s mandate needed to be amended and then changed her tune by not opposing the Finance Minister’s application brought against her report.
According to Lewis, the PP is ignorant and makes simple decisions.
Opposition parties have in the meantime insisted that she should resign and that she must be held personally responsible for the cost of the trial that she no longer wants to oppose.
It is not expected that she will resign since she is a confidant of President Jacob Zuma and probably learned from him how to ignore such claims.
