Public Protector becomes an embarrassment for SA

Die Vryburger

“Based on her predecessor, the current PP is becoming an embarrassment for South Africa. This is a terrifying situation given the fact that her office plays a critical role in protecting the people of South Africa against state capture.”

This is the opinion of Adv. Anton Alberts of FF Plus.

Adv. Alberts said the Public Protector (PP), Adv. Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s decision to oppose the court action brought by the Reserve Bank and Malusi Gigaba, Finance Minister against her findings and recommendations on Absa, is irrational and underlines her ignorance and incompetence. He said it is clear that the PP is completely out of its reach and that she apparently did not get the message that she acted out of her mandate with her recommendations. She now plays with words by saying that she is “misunderstood.”

“Her comment in the report on the role of the Reserve Bank was totally out of order, as it is a matter that must be argued by parliament and would require a constitutional amendment.”

“Her finding can only be undone by a court application now brought by the parties and the fact that she opposes shows that this will interfer with the powers of parliament and that she wants to bring constitutional changes from her office that is not her role. In the process, she set herself up against Minister Gigaba.”

“It’s ironic that she’s actually doing what she’s supposed to do, and it’s going to waste the state’s money on additional court action. It is disappointing, and the question must be asked if she is fit for this important job, “said Adv. Alberts.
