Provide more money for that holiday homecoming

Holidaymakers should be aware that it might be more expensive to get home than it will cost to go on holiday.

Economists warn that fuel prices can rise sharply on the first Wednesday in January. The increase is due to the decision by oil-producing countries that are not part of OPEC to scale down their production.

The move may push the price of Brent crude to above 60 dollars per barrel. Only an unlikely strong improvement in the value of the rand would prevent a sharp rise in fuel prices.

The Brent price currently stands at 55 dollars per barrel.

Meanwhile, the consumer inflation rate will be announced later today, and there is an inclination that it will be higher. An increase in the fuel price will place further pressure on inflation.
