Two protesters have been arrested after they disrupted an exam at the University of Cape Town (UCT) on Monday evening.

UCT spokesperson Gerda Kruger said in a statement that a small group of about seven protesters broke windows and gained access to the lobby of the exam venue at the Sports Centre on Upper Campus.

“It seemed that they wanted to throw a badly smelling substance into the venue, seemingly excrement. The UCT Campus Protection Services were able to stop the protesters from actioning their plan,” she said.

“They fled but two protesters were arrested.”

While the noise disrupted the students sitting the exams, they quickly continued with their paper, Kruger said.

She said they would be given additional time to make up for the disruption.
